San Francisco Proper

So happy to have a “Proper” welcome to Silicon Valley. ;)

On the unique angled corner of Market and McAllister, a historic 1909 flatiron building stands, holding a lavishly renovated boutique hotel, The San Francisco Proper. Thanks to Kelly Wearstler, the hotel exudes pure originality and its walls tell a captivating story. You could probably just stare at the walls in the lobby all day, without ever getting bored.

Proper Perks? YES.

The perks start here; dog-friendly, tons of meetings/event spaces, super uber walkable to anything downtown, 1 min walk from the BART so- easy access from the airport! Also, you’ve got a stellar rooftop with special signature cocktails (BV Hospitality) with chic, (on brand!) black and white chairs. You can even hit the 24 hr fitness center, something not all boutique hotels have invested in.

This was, without a doubt, the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in. It’s truly luxe, you’ve got Aireloom mattresses, handmade in California, you’ve got Bellino Fine Italian Linens, the best hypoallergenic pillows, Aesop (great brand!) bath amenities, huge mini bar (which we are glad we did not discover until we were leaving as we would’ve eaten the whole thing!). The list of sweet perks goes on and on and on, but I’ll just start with a few visuals.

Charmaine’s, a partially indoor, partially outdoor rooftop bar and lounge. This deck has stellar views, though it is nowhere near the tallest building in the city. Something I’ve grown to appreciate is smaller, more intentional, unique dishes. Everyone is trying to watch their waste line and I love that I didn’t feel over-indulgent eating there.

What’s up with Charmaine’s? It’s straight fire.

The environment was classy, but friendly and homey. It would definitely be a spot I would frequent if I lived in town. (Insert Schwarzenegger voice “I’ll be back!”). The lobby is interesting and wild, definitely a must-go.

The best features of the San Francisco Proper are the unique design, insanely comfortable beds (like, I’ve never talked about a bed in a blog- it was that good, and the rooftop views. The wine list was also phenomenal.
