Little America - Cheyenne

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing summer pool day after golfing or a cozy winter getaway, the Little America Hotel & Resort in Cheyenne, Wyoming is the perfect escape. Tucked away (but not far off of I-80) is a sweet, classic luxury hotel with a nine-hole golf course, expansive restaurant & lounge, heated outdoor pool, a cute retail shop, high speed internet throughout the complex, as well as a fitness & business center.

If there were three things that stood out, they’d be the service, the cleanliness, and the classic vibe. People are incredibly friendly, everything is spotless, and you get a taste of 60’s royalty.

The Little America Cheyenne features the largest ballroom in Wyoming, hosting receptions, conferences, and more. The ceiling is covered in huge crystal chandeliers that brighten up the room. The art throughout the lobby is all artists’ originals (many of which were gifts to the owners Earl and Carol Holding). Little America is also the only resort in Cheyenne that the hotel that provides an executive 9-hole golf course and the largest outdoor pool in the entire city! If you can, come to town on a Sunday for their next-level brunch buffet.

FUN FACT: When construction of Little America was completed in 1966, the Holdings Family distributed a new promotional newspaper throughout Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and the Dakotas inviting people to visit the resort. That paper was funded by advertisements for the different contractors, vendors and suppliers involved in the construction. Even now in 2021, most of the property is original! The main building however, was remodeled and expanded in 2008 with the addition of the 13,000 sq ft Grand Ballroom.

My unique experience in Cheyenne.

Hopefully you learned something new about the stellar golf resort, but I also (and I don’t usually) want to tell my own “road trip” story of how I got to Cheyenne and what it meant to me.

By the time I got to Wyoming I had already driven for about 20 hours, on my way from Portland to Nashville. It meant a lot to me that I passed half way! Something I did not expect was a winter storm to blow through, but I made it to Little America in one piece (which was a win!).

When I got to Cheyenne, it was the first time I really felt like I could relax. It was the first time on the road trip that I actually picked up my guitar and started to write (despite bringing it in to every hotel along the way). It definitely has a country vibe and that’s exactly the kind of warmth and comfort that can help me feel like making some great music.

I liked being in that room, that corner room in the snow, SO much… that I canceled my dinner reservation downtown and just hung in with room service. It was worth every second I could sulk in that winter wonderland, staring out on the golf course.

All in all, I’ll remember scraping the snow off of my car in Wyoming and having an enormous smile on my face when I crossed the Continental Divide.
